Arcanum save editor windows 10

It seems that you’re using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don’t work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Here’s what I did to get this to work under windows 8 64bit

open the start menu, search for CMD, right click cmd.exe and choose run as administrator.
Then type in the following commands:
regsvr32 «C:\GOG Games\Arcanum\arceditor1_8\mscomct2.ocx»
regsvr32 «C:\GOG Games\Arcanum\arceditor1_8\richtx32.ocx»
regsvr32 «C:\GOG Games\Arcanum\arceditor1_8\comdlg32.ocx»

if your arceditor folder is in another location you can just move it to the arcanum folder.

I screwed around with this editor for a good 2 hours.

This is the only thing that worked. After reading this post, i realised that I wasn’t running a command prompt in administrator mode.

Make sure you don’t just Windows + R and type cmd, you need to right click and run it as administrator 😀

Thanks a lot JamesMason! 😀

thanks James, for me i also had to do

regsver32 «C:\GOG Games\Arcanum\arceditor1_8\msstdfmt.dll»
all of them ran successfully with this fix. it now runs smoothly.

My games directory path was a bit different and at one point it was telling me the MSSTDFMT.DLL was missing so I registered it too. With some basic edits to the paths this fix worked perfect. Thanks for the info. This worked using Windows 10 Home, 64 bit edition.

My GoG games folder.
A:\Games\GOG Galaxy\Games\Arcanum\modules\Arcanum\Save

thanks, worked for me too. I’d been using this editor since Ye Olden Days, and never got it to work on win10.

i did find it easier to copy all that in a batch file though. that makes it easier to edit the directory and run it as admin.

Thanks for setting me on the right track. The file paths have changed now so this is for anybody else who wants to get the editor up and running these days

regsvr32 «C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Arcanum\arceditor1_8\COMDLG32.OCX»

regsvr32 «C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\Arcanum\arceditor1_8\RICHTX32.OCX»

make sure the folder containing your arceditor is named arcedit1_8 and is in your Arcanum directory. Then it’s just a simple matter of copying these lines and pasting them into the CMD window with ctrl+v and hitting enter. You may get one error but don’t worry it should work, just copy and paste them all

Arcanum save editor windows 10

To get it working on Windows 10 was not a complicated task for me but I have seen a LOT of people have issues with getting it working on Windows 10 (and in a previous system I was also not very successful).

UAP is the Unofficial Arcanum Patch maintained by Drog Black Tooth and is still actively being maintained in 2020. This is the single reason I was able to get mine to work.

Once you have Arcanum installed then you need to follow these steps to install UAP

UAP is an Installation exe which will do all the heavy lifting for you.

Just Double Click UAP2.0.2.exe. Screenshots are of 2.0.0 but the installation didn’t change with the latest version(s)
Accept security warning around unknown publisher.

Then follow the simple installed. Next

Next select what you want to install alongside the UAP installation
The bare minimum is to install UAP Base and the High Resolution Patch

The official DLC is also packaged adding 7 additional mini campaigns. If you like the main story and want more then it is worth trying these out. There is no risk adding these as they just add additional modules that you can change in the settings. This will be explained further down in the guide

There are some other mods that are worth considering in 2.0.0+. Here are the ones I used:

Now select where you have installed Arcanum. In my case my Steam is installed outside of Program Files and actually on a second drive so I change mine to that path.
Make sure the folder you select is the second Arcanum folder.
\steamapps\common\Arcanum\Arcanum

Now hit Finish. UAP is installed but you need to configure the High Resolution Patch for it to work with Windows 10

So alongside the UAP patch Drog Black Tooth has packaged the High Resolution Patch which fixes lots of graphical/compatibility issues people have trying to run Arcanum on Windows 10.

First thing to do is navigate to your Arcanum installation:
\steamapps\common\Arcanum\Arcanum

Then go into the HighRes folder and [/b]edit the config.ini[/b] file. You can right click on config.ini and click edit to edit it on Notepad or edit it using any other text editor. You can see what each setting does but down below I have given my settings file.

Once you have changed the config.ini file make sure you then run the _install.bat file. You can do this by double clicking it or typing _install.bat in a command line window.
If you do not run _install.bat NOTHING will change

//Arcanum High Resolution Patch Settings

//Basic:
Width = 1920 // original: 800
Height = 1080 // original: 600
BitDepth = 32 // original: 16
DialogFont = 1 // 0 = size 12, 1 = size 14, 2 = size 18
LogbookFont = 1 // 0 = size 12, 1 = size 14
MenuPosition = 1 // 0 = top, 1 = center, 2 = bottom
MainMenuArt = 2 // 0 = black, 1 = fade to black, 2 = wood
Borders = 1 // 1 = add borders to most UI graphics

//Graphics:
Windowed = 0 // 0 = fullscreen mode, 1 = windowed mode
Renderer = 0 // 0 = software, 1 = hardware
DoubleBuffer = 1 // 0 = disabled, 1 = enabled (unless windowed)
DDrawWrapper = 1 // 1 = install DDrawCompat wrapper
ShowFPS = 0 // 0 = no change, 1 = always enabled

//Advanced:
ScrollFPS = 60 // original: 35, max: 255
ScrollDist = 30 // original: 10, infinite: 0
PreloadLimit = 60 // original: 30 tiles, max: 255
BroadcastLimit = 20 // original: 10 tiles, max 255
Logos = 0 // 0 = skip Sierra/Troika logos
Intro = 0 // 0 = skip the main menu intro clip

There are several common mistakes people make and here are the ones I know.

the game is now out. I have tested this editor on it and it does work.

*II* REVISION HISTORY *II*

Version 1.8
* Health has been started though at the moment it currently uneditable
as in almost all npcs it is wrong and in most low level pcs it is
wrong.
* Tollo Underhill, Weldo Rubin, and Loghaire Thunderstone are now in
the editor. Now All permenant Npcs are in the editor.

corrupting the game, I just disabled the use of that portion of the
editor for that character.
* Torian Kel, Waromon, and Thorvald Two Stones are now in the editor.
* Geoffrey Tarellond-Ashe, Dante, and the Dog are now in the editor.

* I changed the skills editor code so no longer does it give you the
warning about skills when you first load a character’s skills.
* You must first open a file now in order to be able to save. Since
if you tried to save without opening a file it crashed the program.
* Fixed the bug that made all females backgrounds say Supermodel.
* Females PCs showed up as Males. Fixed

* Now Dark Elf and Ogre have correct racial statistics.

background bonuses.

Willpower as it should be.
* You can now edit Virgil and Sogg Mead Mug if you have them in your
party and raise their level at least once during the game.(i.e. they
can not be at the level they are at when they join your party)
* Added an About screen so people can know what version the editor is

Version 1.4
* Add modified stat box to better reflect the values you see when
playing the game. So far it reflects racial characteristics.

be running under the task window. So close the program from
the main screen.

higher then they should. What happens is that their magic tech skills
are not editable at the time. I am not sure why the game does not save

you do not close the program before opening that section again you
will get an overflow error.
* Some characters might not show up(only tested in my saves which works)
* Magick/Tech bar still says old value when switching between characters
if the character has a value that is not yet in the choice range.

*V* INSTALLATION AND USAGE *V*

*VI* RACE AND GENDER EDITING *VI*

Race and gender editing is a feature that was added in Version 1.8.
It is still very experimental and can possibly screw up your game
when using. Though for most tests it has not caused any major problems.
Some points I need to address about this kind of editing is that it
does not change the original graphic of the character in the game to
match your new race/gender. I am also not sure if your original
race/gender bonuses/weaknesses are effected by changing it. What I can
tell you is that everyone in the game will treat you as the race/gender
you do change it to. Another point I like to add is the races of dark
elf and Ogre. Both of them you can change to but may not be such a
good idea in the full game as most of the text for these races as pcs
are missing. The reason I did add them to the editor is for people like
myself who are building mods and want to add special quests for such
races and wish to allow pcs who play their mod the option of becoming
these races.

*VII* FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS *VII*

*VIII* SPECIAL THANKS *VIII*
Special thanks to all the people who have already sent in files with
different npcs so that I could add them so soon. If anyone has an npc
in their party that is not in the editor feel free to send them in so
that npc will appear in the next version.
