Everyday my laptop tells me I need to update Windows 10, and I’ve done it 3 times now. It takes a long time, it restarts multiple times, eventually it finishes. The next time I turn my laptop on it tells me I need to update Windows 10. It’s really annoying.

This same problem actually happened with another laptop we had a few years ago that ran Windows 7. We didn’t think too much of it because that laptop had a lot of other problems too, but this is a nice laptop with Windows 10 and it doesn’t have any problems other than this.

2) If that fails try manually resetting Windows Update Service:

Open administrative Command Prompt and type following commands one-by-one followed by Enter key.

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver

Close Command Prompt and see if Windows Updates works then

3) You can also install the Updates manually that fail to install which are logged at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Installed Update History, and then search for those to download and install from this Catalog: http://test.catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/sit.

4) If they continue to fail and interfere, then you can block them using one of these methods: https://www.howtogeek.com/224471/how-to-prevent.

Update Faker allows you to «fake a system update«, it’s the perfect way to prank your friends, family members or colleagues. Especially when they’re working on something rather important.
While they are away from their PC simply navigate to this website (updatefaker.com) and click on one of the appropriate themes below. Once they arrive back at their personal computer they will almost certainly start to freak out.
You decide how long you want to let them suffer in frustration before telling them it’s just a prank website.

The idea behind updatefaker.com originates almost a decade ago in an obscure Steam group chat. «Wouldn’t it be funny if you could fake system updates?» That’s basically all it took for this idea to take off. Still, it took quite some time (several years) before the website would actually go live. A huge thank you to Vlovsky for providing us with the code for the various fake system update screens.

This website is literally one of the least bad things that can happen to an unattended PC.
TIP: Lock your PC people. All it takes is WINDOWS KEY + L (Microsoft Windows) or CONTROL + SHIFT + POWER (Mac OS X).

Простое решение самой главной проблемы Windows 10 в 2021 году

На заре появления Windows 10 одной из главных ее проблем были обновления, включающиеся в самый неподходящий момент, и нарушающие работу пользователей. До сих пор в интернете по запросу «проблемы Windows 10» можно увидеть мемы тех далеких времен, посвященные обновлениям.

Прошло пять с половиной лет и к 2021 году планирование обновлений в Windows 10 стало заметно лучше, но вот их качество упало ниже плинтуса. Каждое обновление сопровождается ворохом проблем, зачастую критических. Конечно, многие проблемы быстро исправляются, но их количество уже перешло «красную черту». И как вишенка на торте, становятся сообщения о критических уязвимостях Windows 10, которые появились в системе несколько лет назад.

Казалось бы, достаточно отключить обновления Windows 10 и спокойно пользоваться ей, но именно критические уязвимости не дают нормально использовать такой сценарий. На днях появилась новость, что простая консольная команда или ярлык, способны повредить файловую систему NTFS и вызвать BSOD (синий экран) и перезагрузку системы.

Вслед за этим появилось сообщение, что в актуальных версиях Windows 10 можно вызвать BSOD простой командой в адресной строке браузера. Риск подобных уязвимостей состоит в том, что злоумышленники могут использовать их для обхода защиты системы и заражения ее троянскими программами.

Мелочь, а неприятно, тем более, что у меня данный баг проявлялся и без изменения масштаба значков «Рабочего стола». После этого я решил перейти на способ контроля обновлений ОС, который давно используется системными администраторами для сохранения работоспособности сложных систем.

Заключается он в том, что автоматические обновления ОС отключаются, но не навсегда, а на определенный период времени, а перед обновлением системы делается ее полный слепок (образ системного диска) в стабильном, рабочем состоянии. Периодичность этого действия может составлять от месяца (в идеале), до двух-трех, если вы не хотите часто делать слепки ОС.

При возникновении каких-либо проблем после обновлений, вам достаточно восстановить свою ОС из сохраненного образа.

Отключаем обновления

Описание процедуры звучит довольно пугающе, но на самом деле все эти действия займут у вас не более нескольких минут и пары десятков кликов мыши. Для простого и быстрого отключения обновлений я рекомендую специальный софт. Например, утилиту Kill-Update от разработчика David Le Bansais.

Утилита портативная, не требующая установки, простая и даже не имеет основного окна, а висит в трее, блокируя обновления. Ее меню имеет всего три параметра:

Есть еще пара удобных и актуальных утилит для простой блокировки обновлений: Windows Update Blocker от известного разработчика Sordum, и StopUpdates10 от Greatis Software.

Делаем образ системы

И мы попадаем в привычное приложение из Windows 7. Нужно отметить галочками системный диск и выбрать место, куда сохранить образ.

В 2015-2017 годах интернет просто разрывало от негодования, когда Windows 10 начинала обновляться в самый неподходящий момент, наверняка вы помните эти фотографии? Windows 10 начинала обновляться во время футбольных матчей, концертов и даже во время активной игры на ПК.

Понять Microsoft тоже можно, Windows 10 из законченного продукта превратили в сервис, который постоянно меняется и обновляется и ПК, где обновления отключены, просто выпадают из общего потока обновления, портя статистику.

Сейчас ситуация стала лучше, и даже средствами самой Windows 10 мы можем отложить обновления. Но Windows 10 последние три года славится тем, что частенько все идет не по плану.

И даже в 2020 году на форумах можно столкнуться с подобным поведением Windows 10, когда она обновляется сама, неожиданно для пользователя. Совсем недавно я встретил пострадавшего пользователя на нашей конференции.

Это подтолкнуло меня написать гайд по взятию обновлений Windows 10 May 2020 Update (версия 2004) под полный контроль.

Здесь видно, что обновления можно приостановить и изменить период активности устройства, чтобы обновления не мешали работе.

В «дополнительных параметрах» видно, что можно отложить обновления до определенной даты, но максимум до 35 дней.

Но что, если вам надо приостановить обновления на больший срок? Причины могут быть разными, обычно это потребность сохранить неизменную программную конфигурацию ПК. Например, при работе над важным проектом.

Да даже в некоторых играх требуется как можно меньшее изменение Windows. Например, я играю сейчас в ANNO 1800 с модами, и игра очень нестабильна сама по себе, а моды еще более усиливают это и мне требуется чтобы ПК «застыл» в определенной настроенной конфигурации на месяцы.

Давайте углубимся в настройки обновлений Windows, пока еще не прибегая к сторонним инструментам. Мы воспользуемся локальными групповыми политиками.

Как видите, здесь уже есть тот самый переключатель «вкл/выкл», о котором я писал в начале блога.

Чем можно подстраховаться? Например, установив дополнительные инструменты отключения обновлений. Это пригодится и тем, кто хочет отключить обновления буквально в два клика.

Приложение Win Updates Disabler отключит обновления установкой всего лишь одной галочки. Постоянно держать программу на ПК необязательно и вы можете удалять ее после отключения/включения обновлений.

Как дополнительный бонус такое решение блокирует и телеметрию. Да что там говорить, беря в свои руки контроль за трафиком в системе, разрешая работать программам и играм только по «белым спискам», вы «удаляете жало» у 90% вирусов, троянов и шифровальщиков.

Настройка правил simplewall занимает несколько минут и происходит почти в автоматическом режиме, а потом ее работа становится незаметной.
