Let’s admit it: Windows Vista does have some graphical eyecandy that many of us would like to enjoy too, that is, if we could have it without having to give up on our beloved XP.
Well, who say we can’t? Here’s the trick: download TrueTransparency, copy it to any folder on your hard drive (no installation required) and you’ll be able to add a sleek transparency effect to your windows. It’s as easy as that! Just bear in mind that it may not work with all your apps (during my tests, for instance, Winamp didn’t get the Vista look) but most system windows and standard applications will show off a shiny transparent look.
Like I said, the program doesn’t require installation and hardly uses any system resources. From the little icon displayed on the system tray you can change between two different skins, set the program to be run on Windows startup and also close it when you grow tired of so much transparency and want to go back to traditional Windows XP windows.
TrueTransparency is a very quick, simple way to have the Vista transparency effect on your XP windows.
Author’s review
TrueTransparency is a freeware applicatino that changes the borders and buttons of all system windows, adding PNG support and so true transparency. In this way your XP windows will look a bit more like Vista.
The program enables you to choose between two skins and can be set to run at system startup, if you want to have this cool effect every time you run Windows.

Very Bad CPU Usage and Fullscreen glitches. This program looks very nice, but I’ve noticed some very disturbing glitches about this program. Th e ability to have transparent windows in XP is not really that new and it has been going through some serious bugfixing. The biggest thing I’ve noticed with this program is that it likes to flash certain parts of the screen white over and over, like previous review said, «Like it was having a seizure» Also, I’ve noticed that running fullscreen games will be completely useless when running this program as it slows the game engine and flashes or shows the window border. How strange is that? Pros: Nice look Cons: Very limited functionality More

Glitchy. I noticed on my system, whenever I have the program running, the windows get very glitchy. As if the window were having a seizure. > Pros: Very lightweight, no installation, great visuals and multiple skins. Cons: Glitchyness. More

How To Enable Or Disable The Transparency Effects in Windows 10
Plus a free tool that gives you even more control
As was the case with Windows 8, Windows 10 provides a bit of personalization in the form of a desktop taskbar transparency option. This will allow your desktop wallpaper to be visible through a translucent taskbar.
Notice I said translucent and not transparent. This is because the visual effect is transparent in name only. Translucent would be the more accurate term but Windows, as well as Apple, have seen fit to refer to the option as transparent, and so shall we.
Not only will you be able to add the transparency personalization to the taskbar, but to the Start Menu and Action Center as well. The process is quick and easy and does not require much know-how on the inner workings of Windows to pull it off.
In addition to the transparency option, we’ll also show you how you can increase (or decrease) the amount of transparency in the taskbar. This can be useful for those who prefer a bit of background in the taskbar for visual aid purposes.
How To Enable Or Disable The Transparency Effects In Windows 10
The following steps will help you to enable, or disable, the Taskbar, Start Menu, and Action Center transparency personalization in Windows 10.
The effects provided will appear similar to, although far less intense than the Aero visual effects presented to us in Windows Vista.
While set to OFF, the background for your taskbar, Start Menu, and Action Center will use the colors selected from the same menu. To find them, you only need to scroll further down.
The effects, whether enabled or disabled, will take place immediately without the need to save any changes.
Increasing Taskbar Transparency Via Registry Editor
The transparent option provided above only provides a very minuscule amount of translucency to the taskbar. In order to provide a more translucent visual effect, you’ll need to go a bit deeper into Windows 10’s registry editor.
There may be other programs available to help you do this but the registry is the most straightforward approach.
Moving forward you’ll need to practice extreme caution when it comes to making changes to your Windows registry. Never make registry changes suggested by websites that you don’t trust.
Even for those you do trust, set a restore point within Windows 10 so that if anything is messed up by the changes, your system backup is intact.
For the changes to take effect, navigate back to the Personalization window in Settings and enable the Transparency options. If the option was already enabled, disable and then re-enable for the changes to take effect.
To remove the result, if perhaps you do not like the change, you can head back into the Registry Editor, navigate to the UseOLEDTaskbarTransparency entry, and change the value from “1” back to .
The changes should be very slight. To create a fully translucent taskbar may require the help of third-party tools. Tools such as TranslucentTB and TaskbarTools will accommodate you with whatever translucency value you want your taskbar to contain visually.
However, we prefer the use of Classic Shell.
Using Classic Shell To Enable Full Taskbar Translucency
For more control over the translucency of your taskbar, Classic Shell is a free third-party tool that can get the job done. It has hundreds of useful customization options for the Windows operating system.
You can not only switch between transparent and opaqueness for your taskbar, but also the exact percentage of both.

How to Turn On or Off Transparency Effects in Windows 10
Windows 10 allows the user to have transparency effects enabled or disabled for the taskbar, Start, and Action center. Disabling them disables acrylic Fluent Design effects for Store apps, the Settings app, and the Start menu.
Transparency effects are enabled by default in Windows 10. When you open the Start menu, it appears semi-transparent with the blur effect.
Transparency Effects are enabled:
Transparency Effects are disabled:
Blur will be significantly reduced for the full screen Start menu, making the desktop wallpaper visible behind it.
You can enable disable or enable transparency effects in Windows 10 using the following three methods.
To Turn On or Off Transparency Effects in Windows 10,
If you disable the Transparency effects option, transparency effects will be disabled for the taskbar, Start menu, and Action center, along with the blur effect on the sign-in screen.

1 thought on “ Turn On or Off Transparency Effects in Windows 10 ”
Hi I was hoping to sell an ageing but good quality desktop PC. My problem is that the GeForce 7900 can’t cope with the transparency effects being on. I would like to Reset the PC before selling it to clear out my accounts etc.. The problem is the new owner will face the problem of it defaulting back to Transparency Effects On and its quite hard to tell him/her how to switch it off when the Settings App doesn’t work properly.
If I use the registry key solution will it be reset when I do a PC Reset? Is there anything I can do to make Windows default to OFF for this setting rather than ON?
How to Make the Windows 10 Taskbar Completely Transparent
Lawrence Abrams
Many users enjoy modifying their Windows 10 experience by changing user interface characteristics beyond what Microsoft intended. One popular mod is to make the Windows 10 taskbar completely transparent without any blur effects.
Out of the box, Windows 10 offers a Transparency setting that can be enabled under Settings > Personalization > Colors and then toggling on the ‘Transparency effects’ setting.
When enabled, though, you are left with an opaque experience where the color and text are shown through the taskbar, but it is not completely transparent as shown below.
Using the Windows Registry you can tweak it further so it becomes a bit more transparent by adding a DWORD (32-bit) value named UseOLEDTaskbarTransparency under the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced Registry key and settings its value to 1.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
This can be done via the Registry Editor using the following steps below:
Now go back into Settings > Personalization > Colors and toggle the Transparency effects setting from On to Off and then back to On again for the Registry change to go into effect.
You will now find that the taskbar has become a bit more transparent, but there is still a noticeable overlay effect.
Going completely transparent
If you want to make your Windows 10 taskbar completely transparent, you will need to use a third-party program such as Classic Shell or TranslucentTB.
For this guide, we chose TranslucentTB as it is a small app whose only purpose is to make the taskbar completely transparent.
To get started, simply install the TranslucentTB app from the Microsoft Store and launch it. Once launched, it will automatically make your taskbar completely transparent.
When you couple this with a high-resolution desktop background, you can achieve a beautiful effect where your taskbar icons appear to float on top of the background.
Using TranslucentTB you can also configure it to automatically change the transparency effects of the taskbar as you perform different actions such as opening the Start Menu or use the search field.
For those looking to modify their Windows 10 desktop experience but are not ready for a complete overhaul, TranslucentTB is a great place to start.
